National Night Out

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community event that has been held nationwide since 1984. The event encourages people to gather outside with their neighbors and meet with one another and community officials. Universal City celebrates NNO on the first Tuesday every October. Sometimes referred to as “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, NNO was established to encourage citizens to get actively involved in community activities.

Every year the Universal City Police and Fire Departments and city officials visited the neighborhood parties in caravans. However, by 2015 the number of parties became so numerous, that the caravans did not have the time or resources to meet the demands of the citizens. The caravans were replaced with a centralized NNO Kickoff event at Universal City Park that allowed the citizens much more time to visit with first responders and view many more emergency response vehicles and equipment.
